HALF-NAKED OR CORPORATE-VESTED ANARCHISTS ALL

Richard Barrett

In my "Anti-Anarchist Address" to the U.S. Senate Judiciary
Committee, I advocated curbs upon those engaged in criminal-conduct
to overthrow the government. I had in mind the very ones typically
seen mouthing off during some Democratic Convention, spewing
profanity and demanding that various people be killed, all in the
Emma-Goldman tradition. But, there are other anarchists, as well,
who use different methods, who aspire to bring the nation down,
just as soundly and mercilessly. They invariably call themselves
"conservatives, "free-traders" or, even, "Religious Right," but they
are believers in the "economic" view of history, which binds
Marxists, Leninists and anarchists, alike, that "money" is the
determinative, rather than blood or freedom.

Perhaps it is intentional that the long-haired, masked hippy-types,
conducting themselves like maddened carnival-clowns, are supposed
to drive onlookers into the arms of the "non-radical" public. Who
finances anarchists has not been delved into by the news-media, but
hefty, unruly numbers do not show up in Denver, drinking expensive
bottled-water, wearing designer-scarfs and gawking over cell-phones,
without some wherewithal. William White, who rails against the
"ruling-classes" and puts out calls for assassination over the Internet,
is fueled by a parental-trust fund, the likes of which seem to prop up
many, in the same vein. Although a few handfuls were "camped out"
in parks, while demonstrating in Denver, most were holed up in
high-priced hotels.

One repulsed by the more-outrageous anarchists might well stumble
upon the more-sedentary anarchists, who never even mention the
dreaded "A-word." In fact, some of their literature, such as by Forest
Thigpen, is engrossed to resemble the penmanship of the Declaration
of Independence. The code-words are so beguiling. For example,
they commence that the "authority" of government "comes from
the Creator." Plausible enough, but, noticeably, "We, the People"
is conspicuously absent. Next, the inquirer is instructed that
"government has nothing to give," "individuals are responsible for
governing themselves" and "government should not try to solve
problems." Finally, the cork is popped that "free-enterprise, not
government," must prevail.

"Free-enterprise" means "every man for himself." Gobble up all you
can. Push anyone out of the way. Rob, steal, loot and gormandize to
your heart's content. You, the greedy, crass, selfish individual are
your own "government." Today, it is "limited government." Tomorrow,
it is "no government." Being a "trading-partner" with India is
more-important than being a citizen of America. Being part of some
mega-international corporation transcends being an elector of the
body-politic. Ridding the planet of cultures, borders and nationalities
ushers in the "one-world" of "peace, love and brotherhood." So,
smash the state. Thigpen meets Abbie Hoffman. Chamber of
Commerce greets Students for a Democratic Society. Trent Lott
embraces Eldridge Cleaver.

One blinking, several times, and doing a double-take, may wonder.
On the one side seems to be the half-naked libertine, while, on the
other side, appears to be the vested corporate-executive. Yet, pose
the poignant questions of the day to each and the same answers are
heard. Taxes? Lower them! Abolish them! So what, if the government
collapses. Immigration? States rights! Abolish the police! So what,
if there are no borders. Working-men? Individualism! Kill the bosses!
So what, if the loafers elbow-out the productive. Freedom? Equality!
Kill whitey! So what, if Africa colonizes America. Systems, which
have rejected anarchy, be it of the Communist or Capitalist stripe,
have thrived, but have, yet, to take root in America. "Age of
Nationalism", anyone?

They're not fussy. They'll masturbate over shaved men in vests too.
