AS SOME ZERO OUT, OTHERS HONE IN

Skinheads are a "hot-topic," in the sense that anything concerning
Skinheads tends to get plenty of attention, especially over the Internet.
However, rightist-websites, which have been frequented by Skinheads,
in the past, have suffered significant decline, to the point of "zeroing out"
with "zero-traffic" registered. Some note that while rightists enjoyed a
considerable "lift" during 2004-2006, expansion of the Internet and
the "newness" of the medium wearing off may have contributed to the
dip. However, to the contrary, the prospect of Skinheads opposing
the "Jena Six" has drawn national-attention, including front-line
treatment on "Dr. Phil", the "Rip Daniels Show" and others. Also,
many Skinheads have been backing Ron Paul, only increasing the
profile of the Texas-Congressman, who voted against the Voting-Rights
Act, illegal-alien amnesty and Rosa-Parks "sainthood."

Websites which were "riding high" just two years ago and which now
are virtually defunct include "White Revolution", "Panzerfaust",
"National Vanguard", "National Alliance", "Resistance", "Hammerskin"
and "United Skins". "Skinheadz", "Resist" and "Blood and Honor" are
running at a fraction of their former crest. Even "American Renaissance",
which was never "Skinhead-friendly," had catapulted from the attic to
the cellar. Bands, which used to be numerous, have lost their visibility,
although sporadic gigs still crop up. Merchandising sites, such as
"Micetrap" and "Tightrope" have, also, declined. Skinheads remain
a driving force in rightist-activism, however. A video documentary
about Californians defending the border drew 375 hits, as soon as it
hit the Internet. On the other hand, one about Skinheads drew 74,549,
in the same time-frame.

Speculation is rampant about whether Skinheads will be present
at the "Jena Justice Day" protest against the King Holiday and "Jena
Six". In Boston, Skinheads had initially appeared in support of
"Neighborhood, Home, Country and Family" ceremonies at South
Boston High School, but opted to turn out for the parade in street-clothes.
In New Hampshire, Skinheads were on hand for the "Live Free or Die"
anti-King protest and were, even, pelted with snowballs by rioting hippies
and Communists, but they did not appear on the platform. In Texas,
Skinheads not only took part in "Victory in Vidor" events, celebrating
defeat of the Human Rights Commission, but delivered speeches and
formed the color-guard. Richie Rose said that Skinheads, who were
supportive and disciplined, were welcome to hone in against Mychal
Bell, but that no one was being "bussed in."

Persecution of Skinheads could be a factor in less Internet-visibility.
Several Skinheads have been arrested, with hyped-up media attention,
but when Travis Golie was acquitted of "gangster" charges, he received scant
publicity. Skinhead accomplishments are, likewise, ignored. When William
Minton defeated authorities, who had tried to ban the Skinhead-newspaper,
he received news-coverage only in his locale. Some Skinheads, especially
in Europe, have avoided the Internet, as a security-risk. Many, even, mask
their photos, as a precaution against police harassment. But, even an
"underground" approach does not mean "under-achieving." At Jena,
organizers have taken the town to court, in high-profile litigation, to assure
that they and the Constitution, not the authorities or their foes, are in control.
Meanwhile, a "Topix" blogger asked why there are calls to "free" the
"Jena-Six", but not Skinheads.
