FIRST SKINHEAD VYING FOR OFFICE

The first Skinhead to run for public-office has stormed onto the
field with considerable fanfare and momentum. Except, you would
have to go to Chile to vote for him. Louis Castro, 18, is, also, the
youngest candidate on the ballot, seeking a city-council seat at
Calera, a German-community. Castro, who is not Hispanic, but of
German-descent, is a follower of the late, anti-Communist President
Augusto Pinochet, who was of Flemish-descent. Castro is running on
the Independent Party (PRI) ticket, but proclaims that he is, also, a
member of the "Skinhead Patriots". "I promote my nation and people,"
he says.

"Skinhead Patriots" has been in existence for about five years and
has expanded rapidly in the European-sections of the country. Alonso
Quixada, who is helping manage the Castro-Campaign has, also, served
as artist for the American Skinhead Website. Many Skinheads have
been elected to office, such as Luke Smith, who gained a seat on the
city-council of Burnley, England, but Castro, a star baseball-player,
is the first to openly seek office as a Skinhead. According to Castro,
who has been studying to be an electrician, "We are not like the
youth of the past. We are much more activist."

"We are revolutionaries," insisted Castro. "We do not just want to
chafe, under the policies of others. We intend to make policy."
"Skinhead Patriots" has marched around "La Moneda", the Chilean
Capitol, conducted patriotic concerts, picketed Communists and
defended against "punks." Skinheads are, also, persecuted. Quixada
has been arrested for "hate," but freed. Maurice Egana was
assassinated by Communists. But many Skinheads, who had once
concealed their identity, to ward off police, have been emboldened by
the Castro-candidacy to go public. They, even, emblazon the Crosstar
on their Skinsite.

According to Quixada, "Louis has been a Skinhead for five years. He
is 100% Skinhead and 100% Nationalist. He is the first Skinhead ever
to seek popular-election in South-America." Quixada explained that
"other Skinheads are, also, vying for office under the PRI-banner. We
do not hide our beliefs and we make up for having little resources by
throwing our hearts into our campaign." Quixada beams that "the mere
fact that we are able to field candidates is a triumph. We are fighting
to win, for our homeland and our movement, but, also, for Nationalism
around the world. This is our contribution."

Castro wants Skinheads to spread word of his campaign, worldwide.
He hopes that the PRI, in giving an alternative to the "Concertacion"
and Alliance Parties in Chile, will inspire Skinheads to offer an
alternative to the Republican and Democrat Parties in America. Castro
is well-traveled, having worked and studied in the United States, New
Zealand and Australia. The Valparaiso-press describes Castro as
"never calm," but animated in using his hands, especially in gesturing
while speaking, and with plenty of charisma. "I am normal and
responsible," he smiles. "I have a zest for politics. It is in my blood."
